Sushi Adventures on a Typhoon Day in Tsukiji!
Hey everyone! Today, I’m super excited to share a whirlwind adventure I had with two special guests from Germany, right in the heart of Tokyo, even as a typhoon was making its presence felt!
Meet Milena, a vibrant lady in her 20s, and her equally spirited grandmother. Both were buzzing with curiosity about Japanese food culture, especially the iconic Tsukiji Market and the art of sushi-making.
As we ducked into the Tsukiji Fish Market to escape the rain, we were greeted by a dazzling array of fresh fish. But the showstopper? A massive half of a freshly dissected tuna! The sheer size had both of them gasping in awe. Now, while photography is usually a no-no in the Tsukiji Fish Market, I’ve got some connections. 😉 So, Milena and her grandma got to capture this special moment on camera!
After our market escapade, we headed to my kitchen studio for the main event: sushi-making! First up, getting into the groove with authentic chef uniforms. Talk about setting the mood! In my lessons, I use toy sushi models to teach the seven basic steps of sushi-making. It’s a game-changer, especially for beginners. It makes mastering the basics a breeze!
With the moves down, Milena and her grandma took on the challenge of making sushi with real vinegared rice. Using the freshest ingredients from Tsukiji, they crafted sushi with medium-fatty tuna, horse mackerel, sea bream, scallops, shrimp, crab, egg, and salmon. Yum!
This day was a testament to the fact that even a typhoon can’t dampen the magic of Japanese food culture. A huge shoutout to Milena and her grandma for such a fantastic time!
